No it’s not fog — but dust and sand from the Sahara carried by the winds. Harmattan season is usually from November to March, and it makes Lagos cooler and less humid — but woe to people with allergies and respiratory ailments.

I don’t remember the harmattan season being so bad for the last two years, so much so that we have boxes of Claritin and Benadryl that are now expired — except I started having symptoms of hay fever last December, which went away when we traveled to Kenya, and came back this week. At least even if they’re expired the antihistamines still seem to have some effect.
